Warning about card information theft tricks

BIDV October 25, 2025 10:50

Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) warns customers about increasingly sophisticated card information and OTP fraud as follows:

Subjects impersonating bank employees, reputable service providers... call/send text messages/emails with the content "service account is locked, annual fee is waived, lucky draw, credit limit is increased, card level is upgraded..." then lure users to provide card information (card number, expiration date, security code), OTP code via phone or via fake links sent by the subject, in order to steal money in the card and account.

BIDV affirms :

  • Only provide guidance and support to customers via the official website, BIDV SmartBanking application, customer service hotline 1900 9247, or BIDV Branches/Transaction Offices.
  • Absolutely DO NOT ask customers to provide card information (card number, expiration date, security code), OTP code, BIDV Smart Banking login password through any form.

BIDV recommends that you:

  • Never provide card information (card number, expiration date, CVV code), OTP, SmartBanking login name and password to anyone, including people claiming to be bank employees.
  • Do not access strange links, do not download applications of unknown origin, do not enter security information into unofficial websites.
  • Do not provide the OTP code under any circumstances. This is the final layer of protection of the transaction – if exposed, the fraudster can immediately take your money.
