Macroeconomic news:
- United States: Initial jobless claims for the week ending January 31 reached 231K (forecast: 212K, previous: 209K). Continuing jobless claims: 1,844K (forecast: 1,847K, previous: 1,827K).
- UK: The Bank of England announced it would keep interest rates unchanged at 3.75% at its February meeting.
- EU: December 2025 retail sales: +1.3% y/y (Forecast: +1.6% y/y; Previous month: +2.3% y/y, revised up to +2.4% y/y).
- The European Parliament announced it would resume consideration of an important trade agreement with the US after President Donald Trump withdrew his threats to seize Greenland.
- Chinese President Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump to discuss bilateral relations. During the conversation, Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of China-US relations and expressed his willingness to continue working with President Trump in the new year to lead bilateral relations through difficulties, move towards stability, and promote the implementation of more major initiatives.
- Iran and the US agreed to hold nuclear talks in Oman on February 6, opening up an opportunity for dialogue after much tension and disagreement over content and location.
- Vietnam: On February 5, the Vietnam Stock Exchange (VNX) met with FTSE Russell to review the progress of cooperation in developing indices and discuss future coordination directions to serve the goals of sustainable development and the roadmap for upgrading the Vietnamese stock market.
Market News:
- Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long signed and issued Resolution 09/2026/NQ-CP on the temporary suspension of the effectiveness and adjustment of the application period of Decree 46/2026/ND-CP detailing the implementation of certain provisions and measures to organize and guide the implementation of the Food Safety Law and Resolution 66.13/2026/NQ-CP regulating the declaration and registration of food products. Accordingly, the suspension decision is effective until April 15, 2026.
- At the sixth round of negotiations on the Vietnam-US Fair and Balanced Trade Agreement, Vietnam expressed its readiness to increase imports of high-tech products from the US, thereby contributing to a harmonious, sustainable, and mutually beneficial trade balance.
- According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in January 2026, Vietnam's agricultural, forestry, and fishery exports are estimated to reach nearly $6.51 billion (up 29.5% y/y). Of the total export value, agricultural products reached $3.6 billion (up 41.8%); livestock products reached 47.5 million USD (up 20.2%); aquatic products reached 940 million USD (up 21.5%); forestry products reached 1.72 billion USD (up 13%); and salt reached 1.1 million USD (up 49%).
- HPG: Hoa Phat Group began construction of the nearly 355-hectare Dong Phuc Industrial Park in Bac Ninh, promoting sustainable economic development and attracting investment in the northern region.
- VNX: For the whole of 2025, VNX achieved total revenue of over VND 2,905 billion, up 30% compared to the previous year. Profit after tax reached nearly VND 2,850 billion, up 29%. Compared to the 2025 plan, the Department exceeded 29%.
