Today's Stock Market, April 17: Steep Uptrend Slows Down

The short-term sharp rally has stalled; in the coming sessions, the VN-Index needs time to find a new equilibrium.

BASIC MARKET
After a day of consolidation within the 1,812–1,847 range, the VN-Index closed at 1,817.17 points, down nearly 3 points from yesterday.

Market breadth was fairly balanced, with 11 out of 18 sectors gaining ground, led by the Retail sector, followed by Oil & Gas, Chemicals, and Information Technology. On the downside, the Tourism and Entertainment sector saw the sharpest decline.

Regarding foreign investor activity, foreign investors were net buyers on the HSX today and net sellers on the other two exchanges.

The short-term sharp rally has stalled; in the coming sessions, the VN-Index will need time to find a new equilibrium.

FUTURES
CONTRACTS All futures contracts rose in tandem with the VN30’s movements.

WARRANTS
In the trading session on April 17, 2026, most warrants moved in line with the fluctuating trend of their underlying stocks.

VN-Index -2.66 points, closing at 1,817.17 points. HNX-Index +3.51 points, closing at 260 points.
• Driving the index higher: MWG (+1.88), GVR (+1.16), VPB (+1.13), BSR (+1.00), GAS (+0.90).

• The VN-Index’s matched order value reached 20,479 billion VND, down -8.88% from the previous session. Total trading value reached 23,432 billion VND.

• Net buying value by foreign investors: 106.47 billion VND on the HOSE, including VIC (314.59 billion), MWG (194.88 billion), MSN (98.85 billion), FPT (62.78 billion), and VPI (40.00 billion). Foreign investors net sold on the HNX with a value of -43.91 billion VND.
