BIDV - Gemadept: Partnering to Build a Financial-Maritime Ecosystem
BIDV and Gemadept Joint Stock Company have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the development of a financial-maritime ecosystem
On May 21 at the Vietnam International Financial Center (VIFC-HCMC) in Ho Chi Minh City, the event marked a pioneering step by the two leading enterprises in anticipating development trends and realizing Vietnam’s Sustainable Marine Economic Development Strategy through 2030, with a vision toward 2045.

Combining strengths to build the pillars of the maritime financial sector
At the ceremony, Mr. Doan Viet Nam – Deputy General Director of BIDV and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh – General Director of Gemadept jointly agreed and marked a new milestone in strategic cooperation to anticipate the development trends of the International Maritime Financial Center (IMFC) and implement Vietnam’s Sustainable Marine Economic Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045. Accordingly, Gemadept—as a strategic member of the International Financial Center in Ho Chi Minh City (VIFC-HCMC) and a founding investor in the IMFC ecosystem—one of the four pillars of VIFC-HCMC’s development—plays a leading role in building and developing the Port-Logistics ecosystem infrastructure. Concurrently, BIDV is committed to a long-term partnership with Gemadept as a strategic partner, providing comprehensive financial and banking solutions to support and drive Gemadept’s journey toward future breakthroughs.
The outstanding achievements and tangible results from the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation Agreement signed in December 2024 have laid a solid foundation for BIDV and Gemadept to further elevate their bilateral relationship, making it increasingly close and enduring. Building on that success, this new agreement further concretizes the commitment to strengthen the Strategic Partnership, optimizing the synergy between Gemadept’s core strengths in port and logistics infrastructure and BIDV’s modern, specialized financial services ecosystem.
Digitizing logistics and developing specialized financial tools
Through this MOU, as the pioneer in developing the IMFC initiative and directly leading the development of the ecosystem through research and implementation of highly practical cooperation models, Gemadept will collaborate with BIDV to focus on implementing core solutions: providing specialized financial tools (supply chain financing, maritime financing, guarantees, etc.), digitizing logistics, developing comprehensive marine insurance, and promoting trade.

Also at the forum, Dr. Can Van Luc—Chief Economist of BIDV and Member of the National Financial and Monetary Policy Advisory Council—shared strategic insights on the role of the maritime financial ecosystem amid the ongoing major restructuring of global supply chains and trade. According to Dr. Can Van Luc, the development of the International Maritime Financial Center (IMFC) aligns with Vietnam’s sustainable maritime economic development strategy, helping to integrate the flow of goods, capital, and investment while enhancing Vietnam’s position in the global supply chain.
The event is not only a practical commitment to partnership but also a profound affirmation of the trusted partnership between BIDV and Gemadept, opening a new chapter for the business breakthrough of these two leading Vietnamese enterprises. The collaboration is expected to retain and optimize domestic value added while creating new growth momentum for Vietnam’s maritime economy.
