From the ideas and drastic and close direction of the Party Committee Standing Committee

From the initial idea to completion, the publication “History of the Party Committee of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (1957 - 2025)” is the result of a process led by a spirit of high determination and close, drastic direction of the Standing Committee of the BIDV Party Committee.

Right from the beginning of the policy, the Standing Committee determined that this was not only a simple historical record, but also a source of pride and great political responsibility for the glorious tradition of the Party Committee over nearly 70 years of construction and development. With that enthusiasm, the original name of the publication, "BIDV Party Committee - Imprints on the development journey", was adjusted to "History of the Party Committee of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (1957 - 2025)" - a name that clearly shows the comprehensiveness, historical depth and stature of a Party organization within the country's pillar financial institution.

The Party Committee Standing Committee requested the publication to be published on the occasion of the 15th BIDV Party Congress, term 2025-2030, scheduled for the second quarter of 2025 - as a meaningful milestone, affirming the Party's consistent leadership role, and at the same time, it will be an important foundation for continuing to compile the next historical milestones such as 70 years and 80 years of BIDV Party Committee.

Immediately after determining the policy and implementation objectives, the Steering Committee, the Editorial Board and the Editorial Board's Support Team for the publication were quickly consolidated. The preparatory work - from selecting partners to developing content and collecting documents - was carried out with a sense of urgency and high responsibility. The Institute of Party History (Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics) and the Truth National Political Publishing House - prestigious and experienced units - were trusted and selected by the BIDV Party Committee to accompany and coordinate the implementation of this meaningful project.

In addition, the Standing Committee directly organized a meeting with former BIDV leaders of different periods to report and ask for opinions on the publication's implementation policy; at the same time, directed the synthesis of information from grassroots party organizations in the entire system in a systematic and scientific manner.

It can be affirmed that it is the special attention and drastic direction of the Party Committee Standing Committee - especially the determination and close, direct supervision of the Party Committee Secretary - that has created a great driving force, contributing to the success of this historical publication.

… To the constant efforts in the journey of collecting and editing documents

From a clear and decisive direction, the journey of compiling the publication was carried out with relentless efforts - a journey full of enthusiasm, perseverance and many challenges. For the first time carrying out a historical work at the Party level on a system-wide scale, the Compilation Board had to face many difficulties: urgent time, scattered historical documents due to the process of transferring the Party organization through many different upper-level Party Committees, many important historical witnesses were no longer around...

Above all, with the aim of ensuring authenticity, completeness and objectivity, the Editorial Board has proactively established working groups and organized the collection of documents from both internal sources of BIDV and external agencies and organizations. The internal collection of documents has been implemented methodically, urgently and extensively, mobilizing the coordination of the Departments/Centers at the Headquarters and more than 251 grassroots Party organizations nationwide.

Not stopping there, the working groups directly met and interviewed 15 comrades who were former leaders of BIDV, members of the Party Committee, members of the Party Standing Committee through the periods in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang; studied over 300 issues of the Investment and Development Newsletter since 1994; conducted research at the BIDV Document and Asset Archive Center in Hung Yen, as well as a series of other prestigious archive addresses such as the Archives of the superior Party Committees (Party Committee of the Ministry of Finance, Central Bank Agency), National Archives Center II, III, IV; Hanoi Party Committee, Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; press agencies such as Communist Magazine, Vietnam News Agency, Banking Times...

In just a short time, more than 1,000 valuable documents, texts, articles, and images have been collected, which are vivid pieces reflecting the history of formation and development of Party cells and grassroots Party organizations in the entire system. Each line of documents found - whether it is the name of a Secretary through the terms, the time of the Congress, the number of Party members in each period, or an old signature - are all treasured like "diamonds". Hidden behind the pages that have faded with time are countless silent efforts of members of the Editorial Team, the Support Team, and the researchers - those who have diligently "paved the sand for gold" so that each small piece contributes to a realistic and profound reproduction of the appearance and development journey of BIDV Party Committee over nearly seven decades.

Not only is it a journey of collecting documents, the compilation process is also the crystallization of collective intelligence. The Editorial Board has received many profound and dedicated comments from comrades in the Standing Committee and the Party Executive Committee, contributing to perfecting the content, enhancing the quality and depth of theory and practice for the publication.

However, despite many efforts in the process of collecting, compiling and appraising documents, due to time constraints, historical sources have not been fully preserved, many important witnesses no longer exist, so the publication still cannot avoid shortcomings, does not fully reflect the history of development of the Party organization in BIDV, reflects the contributions of all grassroots party organizations/affiliated party organizations, individuals in each development stage of the Party Committee... This is also the content that the Editorial Board wishes to continue to supplement and improve, aiming for future reprints to be more in-depth and comprehensive.

The project has profound historical significance

After an urgent, serious and dedicated journey, on May 7, 2025, on the occasion of the 71st Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory, the publication "History of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development (1957-2025)" was officially launched to readers on the e-book platform of the National Political Publishing House.

The publication has received deep attention and recognition from leaders and former leaders of the Party, State and the Banking sector. In his congratulatory letter to the Party Committee and all officials, party members and employees of BIDV, comrade Nguyen Sinh Hung - former member of the Politburo, former Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam - highly appreciated the publication of the book, considering it an important event in the development journey of the Party Committee. He emphasized that this is not only a milestone marking the glorious journey of the BIDV Party Committee but also a work of profound historical, political and practical value.

Comrade Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang - Member of the Politburo, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council - especially emphasized the great traditional educational significance that the publication brings. According to him, the book shows the pride of BIDV's staff, party members, and employees, thereby arousing and spreading the spirit of dedication, creating a strong driving force for the entire system to realize the aspiration for rapid and sustainable development.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Hong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Party Secretary, Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam - affirmed that the publication is a vivid proof of the spirit of political responsibility, gratitude and awareness of preserving and promoting historical values and glorious traditions that have forged the identity of BIDV Party Committee over the past 68 years.

In the introduction of the publication, comrade Phan Duc Tu - Member of the Government Party Committee, Party Secretary, Chairman of BIDV Board of Directors - emphasized: “The book is a scientific work compiled seriously and elaborately; crystallizing the consensus and joint efforts of generations of BIDV cadres and party members through the periods, demonstrating the urgent and decisive leadership and direction of the Party Committee Standing Committee, along with the efforts, enthusiasm and intelligence of scientists. The Editorial Board has worked hard to collect documents and restore precious memories to clarify the development journey of BIDV Party Committee.”

Not only receiving high appreciation from senior leaders, the publication also touched the hearts of many cadres, party members, workers and readers inside and outside the industry. “With a modern design, rigorous content, and careful selection, the book has vividly recreated a comprehensive picture of the history of formation, growth and significant contributions of BIDV Party Committee to the development of the country and the banking and finance industry over the past nearly seven decades,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien Huong - Director of Customer Service Center.

This is the first historical work on the Bank's Party Committee to be systematically compiled and published, the crystallization of the passion, intelligence and pride of many generations of BIDV cadres and Party members.
