Morning Briefing, April 15: Credit growth reaches 3.18% by the end of Q1 2026

Macroeconomic News

  • IMF: Forecasts global economic growth for 2026 at 3.1%, lower than the 3.3% figure in the previous quarter’s report. Under this scenario, the IMF maintains its forecast for global economic growth in 2027 at 3.2%.
  • International Energy Agency (IEA): Forecasts global oil demand to decline by 80,000 barrels per day in 2026, a complete reversal from the previous forecast of a 640,000-barrel-per-day increase. Global oil supply is expected to decrease by 1.5 million barrels per day this year, contrary to last month’s forecast of a 1.1 million-barrel-per-day increase.
  • Vietnam has been rated by the London Stock Exchange (LSE) as a “very noteworthy story,” particularly given its double-digit growth targets and expectations for a market upgrade.
  • Government: Issued Directive No. 401/TTg-KTTH requiring ministries, sectors, and localities to focus on directing the allocation, assignment of plans, and accelerating the disbursement of public investment capital for 2026, given that only about 11.2% of the plan had been disbursed by early April, with total public investment capital exceeding 1 million billion VND
  • State Bank of Vietnam: As of March 31, 2026, total credit outstanding across the system reached over 19.18 million billion VND, up 3.18% from the end of 2025. The State Bank of Vietnam will closely monitor credit growth and adjust credit growth targets upward or downward as needed.
  • State Bank of Vietnam: Has received 11 applications for licenses to produce gold bars.
  • Ministry of Home Affairs: Officially launched the National Job Exchange at vieclam.gov.vn.
