In the banking world, which is considered dry and stressful, Ms. Ngo Thi Lien Huong - Director of BIDV Customer Service Center - chose for herself a different leadership style: leading with intelligence, nurturing with heart.

Writing about Ms. Lien Huong is not easy. To persuade her to tell her story, the thing she repeats over and over is: "Write more about the collective". It is this modesty that makes colleagues respect and admire her more. Because behind the simple demeanor is a courageous, intelligent and compassionate female leader - the captain who has led the BIDV Customer Service Center for many years to excellently complete professional tasks, becoming a united, creative and vibrant collective.
Having been in the banking industry for more than two decades, Ms. Lien Huong’s journey began with a passion for numbers and the discipline of the profession. Coming to BIDV, she realized that this is a place where she can both train her mettle and nurture her creativity. When taking on the role of Director of the Customer Service Center, she chose for herself the leadership philosophy: “Integrity in decisions, empathy in behavior.”
According to her, a good leader is not only someone who sets KPIs but also someone who is disciplined, dares to innovate and inspires. Discipline creates efficiency, while empathy helps connect people – these two factors, when combined, will create sustainable collective strength. She always believes: “The greatest success of a leader is not the reward, but the maturity of each member of the team.” At the Customer Service Center, that success is demonstrated through the spirit of solidarity, creativity and perseverance – values that Ms. Huong has quietly cultivated over many years.
The mark of intelligence and solidarity: Turning the impossible into possible
Under the leadership of Ms. Lien Huong, BIDV Customer Service Center has become one of the leading units in service quality and technological innovation in the entire system. For many consecutive years, the Center has been honored as an Excellent Labor Collective, marking its mark with the spirit of "discipline - creativity - solidarity - responsibility".

But behind those rewards are countless challenges. For her, the biggest challenge is not the amount of work but choosing the right people, assigning the right tasks and instilling a common spirit. The Board of Directors and the Party Committee of the Center unanimously followed the functions and tasks to arrange suitable personnel, creating smooth and effective coordination. One of the most memorable memories was when the Center was assigned the task of making statements of the Fatherland Front's accounts to support Typhoon Yagi. That task was estimated to take at least a month to complete, but thanks to the spirit of solidarity and high determination, the entire Center completed it in just one day. "When everyone is working towards a common goal, nothing is impossible" - Ms. Huong recounted.
Not only is she a team leader, she is also a pioneer in digital transformation and process improvement initiatives. With the initiative "Electronic Document Management Program for Capital Business" initiated by her, nearly 100% of capital business transactions have been transferred to the digital environment, helping to improve labor productivity, reduce operational risks and contribute positively to the digitalization journey of the entire BIDV system.
What she is most proud of is not only the operational efficiency, but also the human values behind the technology. “I always hope that each staff member can complete their work more effectively so that they can go home on time and have time to take care of themselves and their families. When technology helps us save time, people will have more space to live happier lives.” For her, “technology gives us speed, people give us direction.” Only when these two factors are combined, will development be truly sustainable.
Sowing the seeds of happiness
In her management position, Ms. Lien Huong has always been known as a leader who is “clear in work, gentle in behavior”. She believes that creating pressure to strive is necessary, but only when there is empathy, people can truly stick together for a long time. There were times when, with just five minutes of sincere listening, she helped a young cadre confidently share innovative ideas. Later, that person became an outstanding factor, receiving a certificate of merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. “A timely sharing can change a person's whole journey,” she said.

In her private life, she is a devoted mother and wife. When talking about her family, she shared: “My daughter is 18 years old, every time I come home, she always greets me with a smile or homemade food. That alone is enough to make me happy.”
It was those simple moments that helped her realize that a strong organization must start from happy homes. She often reminded her colleagues: "Only when an officer has a happy family can he/she feel secure at work."
Not only dedicated to her work, she has also been involved in BIDV's social security activities for nearly 15 years - from Covid-19 prevention support programs, support for flood victims to community volunteer activities. For her, it is not only a responsibility, but also a belief that a large bank not only creates financial value, but also social value.
One special thing about her is her love of knowledge. As a member of the Board of Directors of the “Bookstore” Club, she also “passes on the passion for reading” to her colleagues. “Books help me grow up every day, and I want everyone to grow up like that.” – she shared. For her, reading is not only to know more, but also to think and do better…
For Ms. Lien Huong, titles or awards are not the destination. “It is not the biggest title but the moment when the collective recognizes that I am always fair and persistent with the common goal – that is the most precious reward.”
When asked what she wanted to leave behind after a long journey, she just smiled: “A colleague who knows how to share. Because in a world that is changing every day, sharing – knowledge – and empathy are the three values that make a great banking woman of the new era.”
