Today's Stock Market, March 17: Market Sentiment Remains Divided

BASIC MARKET
The VN-Index surged to the 1,732 level right at the opening; it then fluctuated around this level before facing selling pressure in the afternoon session and closed at 1,710.29 points, up more than 17 points from yesterday.

Market breadth was fairly balanced, with 14 out of 18 sectors gaining ground, led by the Insurance sector, followed by Financial Services, Industrial Goods & Services, and others.

On the downside, the Oil & Gas sector fell sharply by nearly 6%. Regarding foreign investor activity, foreign investors were net sellers across all three exchanges today. Wide price swings coupled with continued declining liquidity indicate a lack of market consensus; investors should trade cautiously.

CONTRACTS All futures contracts rose in line with the VN30 index.
